I kinda want to take this and apply maths and sciences and make it actually gain some higher flight and usability.

The US Army has been trying to build something like this since the ‘50s. Piasecki got close with the VZ-8 Airgeep . Maybe the technology is finally mature enough to make it possible.

I’d guess a lot of it comes down to weight. It’s a lot easier to balance when you’ve got enough mass in your own body to swing things around than when you’ve gotta have the machinery balancing itself.

I did see in the comments a lot of people suggesting to do 4 rotors and use a quadcopter-type control system, which I think would be pretty damn incredible.

In the comments people were suggesting 3 or 4 rotors and a quadcopter-type control system, seems like that would be a pretty functional way to go.

Yep! My personal favorite is the motorcycle-engined tuktuk, it had me browsing craigslist trying to find a tuktuk for a while

Hm. Part of me thinks the instability of the dual front to rear rotor would be more fun and easier to whip around for better handling.

But you need lift somewhere, and we’ve seen how nimble quads can be. Control would become a challenge, which certainly couldn’t be quite as manual in my opinion. Like leaning in a motorcycle vs steering only in a car.

Lots of variables. Cool idea

His accent is straight out of a Charles Dickens novel and that was some of the worst music I’ve ever heard. But that hoverbike is epic. I want one.

I’d go with a pair of rotors front and back. It would make load balancing fairly easy since you’d just have a left/right and a front/back control of some sort along with a throttle for overall lift. You could even use load sensors in the foot pegs/handlebars to maintain the feeling of using you body weight to control it.

Oh god me too. Those motors aren’t as expensive as one might think either, there’s a whole slew of them available for well under $10k.

Now that’s some thinking. Damn that would be sweet
